Kids’ workshop: Trash to Treasure

Turn an everyday tin, jar or bottle into a glowing light or a beautiful decorative piece.

Using decoupage, paint and a mix of creative techniques, kids transform “rubbish” into something they’re genuinely proud of – the kind of thing that ends up front and centre, not hidden away in a drawer.

All materials and tools are provided, along with hands-on guidance, ideas and plenty of inspiration. No experience needed – just a willingness to get a bit messy and creative.

The workshop runs for around 1.5 hours and is surprisingly calming and absorbing (yes, even for kids). Suitable for kids from 6 years of age until adults.

Each child leaves with:
• A unique, professional-looking piece
• New creative skills
• A proper confidence boost
• And something they’ll be desperate to show off

Because making something yourself just hits differently.

PATCHWORK DECOUPAGE

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to transform everyday objects laying decoupage as a patchwork.

We’ll show you how to prep the surface, then build up layers of pattern, colour and texture using a wide range of decoupage papers, and how to create a balanced (or intentionally unbalanced) final design.

Finally  we’ll  show you how to tie it all together using paint colours before sealing your final piece.

You’ll be guided through:

  • selecting and combining papers that work well together and fit your project

  • planning your layout before committing (no panic-gluing)

  • layering techniques for a durable, high-quality finish

  • sealing and protecting your piece so it lasts

You’re welcome to bring your own item to embellish – charity shops are ideal for sourcing flat or simple pieces. Picture frames, mirrors, trays and small furniture works particularly well, but many other objects are suitable too.

All materials and tools are provided. No prior experience is needed – this workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those who’ve decoupaged before and want to refine their technique or have access to a larger selection of materials.

Alongside being creative and fun, the process is surprisingly calming and focused. You’ll leave with a unique, finished piece and the confidence to carry on decoupaging at home while feeling totally zen as a bonus!
